An implant is a titanium post placed into the jawbone to act as an artificial tooth root. Once the bone has healed around it, a crown, bridge, or denture is fixed on top.
Because an implant replaces the root as well as the visible tooth, it does not rely on neighbouring teeth for support the way a conventional bridge does, and it helps maintain the bone that would otherwise recede where a tooth is missing.
What treatment involves
- 01
Assessment
We assess bone volume and density, gum health, and your general health. Imaging tells us whether the site can support an implant, or whether grafting is needed first.
- 02
Placement
The implant is placed into the bone under local anaesthetic. A healing period follows, during which bone integrates with the implant surface.
- 03
Restoration
Once integration is confirmed, the final crown, bridge, or denture is fitted and adjusted to your bite.
Good to know
- Implant treatment happens over several visits with healing time in between — it is not a single-appointment procedure.
- Smoking and uncontrolled diabetes both affect healing and implant success. Tell us so we can plan around it.
- Implants need the same cleaning and regular review as natural teeth.
